SAMPLE SOLUTION
Evidence to guide nursing practice has changed greatly during the 20th century, because the world has changed and advanced greatly and we want to continue to learn and know more. The improvements and changes can be done from mistakes and achievements from the past. Technology is now easily accessible; we can easily ask questions and get an evidenced based answer. The equipment we use has come far, from our stethoscope, bp cuff, hospital beds to the equipment we have access to that is mobile to take into patients home. Technology has helped us better monitor our patients and reduce errors. Improved communication which patients and healthcare staff is also possible due to new methods of technology and telehealth has grown so much, we saw that improve just as recent as the covid pandemic (Bailey, 2022).
Nurses are also going further in their education than before, and that is also possible due to technology, it is so easy to further our education and obtain certifications in areas such as cardiac, wound care, respiratory, etc. We don’t just stop at our BSN. Not only do we have Nurse Practitioners, nurses are getting doctorates in various areas such as Doctorate of Nursing Practice. All of these measures help nurses remain stronger and confident in where they work as well as give patients a greater sense of safety knowing the person caring for them is specialized in the area they are being treated, and their care can be more personalized.
Nurses are in a variety of roles which has changed greatly in the 20th century, I think that is due to improvements in technology. The last few companies I have worked for have nurses that either work in IT or other departments to train other nurses on the systems we use. Nurses do so much more than just work in health care facilities and provide hands on care. Aside from technology, medical care in general now has a huge focus on infection control, which is coming from evidenced based practice and technology helps assist us daily.
