LDR-463-O500 Topic 4

Assessment Description
After reading “The Decision-Making Process,” review the four consumer decision making models: economic model, passive model, cognitive model, and emotional model.

Select two of the models and compare the process and approach. Identify an education or work situation in which you had to utilize one of the two models you selected.

Sample Solution

Decision-making is an essential aspect of communication and going about issues in our daily lives that we could not properly understand without it. Several different ways and decision-making processes can be used as responses to a multitude of different circumstances. In particular, I would like to highlight two strategies that I believe can be best compared to the cognitive and emotional models. These models both employ common thought processes but in completely different ways. The cognitive model involves a more planned thought process relying upon a mixture of experience and skills to tackle a situation. While the emotional model instead tends to be a more reactive and quick response to that situation. Despite both being opposites initially, we likely all had experience with both models in our decision-making processes without even realizing it.

Dissension-making is a process that can vary quite often similar to the process of problem-solving with the difference being it involves the “discovery of a correct response” (“Career Development Service,” 1976) within a circumstance. This differs quite a bit from the decision as instead, we need to “weigh” multiple circumstances to reach the most agreeable result. This may not be the best response but it is what we have chosen after weighing all other decisions. This ties into how decision-making is often a cognitive process that involves a multitude of factors being weighed and decided upon based on experiences. This is also what makes the emotional model stand out so much as it often involves a person’s immediate emotional response to a situation. This may not be the best decision as it is often impulsive but may be helpful in circumstances that do not require a more cognitive or planned response. These models show how someone’s decision-making process can vary so much in comparison to each other based on the circumstances of those responses.

After reading “The Decision-Making Process,” plan how you will take further steps to “know yourself” and “know the world of work.” Discuss how you will merge these two sets of information to make better career decisions.

Sample Solution

The Decision making process provides steps to better oneself and others around you by providing real world issues with real world resolutions. “Knowing oneself means recognizing one’s aptitudes (or abilities), preferences, and interests.” I think assessments such as these or real-life conflicts ultimately tell you what kind of person you currently are or the person that you want to be in present and later on in life. I believe situations gathered from your youth and adulthood continually shape your mind and body, additionally I think one’s upbringing molds you into the person you are today by trial and error and relationships to family, although I do understand people do have the power to change themselves, however not all people have the will to change, even if it is for the better or healthier version of one’s self. “Knowing the world of work means knowing what one can expect from a particular career and knowing about salaries as well as intangibles.” Career choices tell a lot about a person’s personality, example if someone is in the field of education, they like to see people thrive and learn, where as someone who is a professional boxer enjoys physical contact in the form of fighting another person. I do believe salaries have major impacts on our career choices for that fact being if someone could be paid to do something they love that comes natural to them which most people will take that offer and create a future with it in a career.
